This beautiful figure was a real lucky find. About 12 years ago, a violent storm raged in Arosa. It washed away several hiking trails and triggered huge debris avalanches that buried parts of the forest.
A long time after this storm, when I started my wood art, I went back to the place where the landslide happened to look for wood. However, I didn’t bring anything home, thinking that most of the pieces were rotten after such a long time. A few years later I realized that the wood which was lying around must be Swiss Stone Pine which rots very slowly. So I set off again and sifted through the rubble, where I found over 10 new pieces of Swiss Stone Pine. While I was collecting them, I got very thirsty. Unfortunately, I had forgotten my water bottle, so I went to the stream to quench my thirst. And there it was. I could hardly believe my eyes and knew that I definitely had to take it with me.
Maybe it had been lying there for a long time, just waiting to be found. The admirable thing about pine wood is that it rots very slowly. It can therefore lie in the riverbed for years without suffering any great damage.
The stone pine also provides vegetative regeneration in its environment. It has an influence on circulation, sleep and well-being and is therefore a friend that protects and calms us.
